You may think to yourself "oh, how clever a title! Only Lyon!" because it uses the same letters, but they actually have a huge sculpture in the center of the city that says the same, so they clearly understand at least one word in English. Only one, though. (See, that was me being clever).
So: Lyon.
Well, first, we went to Perouges (not Lyon, it's a town), which is a very small place in between Lyon and Annecy, comme ça: It was beautiful! The story about it's name "Perouges" is that either it's because the stones are a reddish color "Pierres Rouges" = "Red Stones", or just that the people who founded the city came from a similar sounding place in Italy, "Perugia." It is essentially a fortress with a big church and lots of dragon flags and crests:
also: lots of sundials (with which I am a little obsessed),
and they are famous for their galette's, which are sweet pizzas. Anyway, it was totally beautiful and I want to live there forever.
So.
Lyon.
Lyon was also awesome! It was, obviously, much bigger and more city-ish (meaning busier and dirtier) than Perouges, but still beautiful. Jana and I walked around together for a while, and we went shopping un peu, I got a present for somebody (not naming names), and also some cherries which were SO good, and we stopped to eat them on some steps in the shade. Delish. Anyway, we went to the church and it was all old and stone and grand and whatnot. Very large and impressive and scary. Dun-dun-dunnnnn.
Anyway, I went into a book shop and nearly bought a Harry Potter book, but I didn't because I didn't really have enough time to decide which. I only brought two books to France for the month and I'm already halfway through the second one. C'est un grave problème. So I'm going to buy a Harry Potter book in French so not only can I practice but also I can read Harry Potter. Woo!
There were a few other things in Lyon I wanted to share. First: this wall, which Jana pointed out is probably still standing from some war or other because the holes in it look like shrapnel holes. Also: this couple who I totally fell in love with in the five minutes during which I stared at them non stop and took three pictures. The guy was so gentle with her and she was so sharp with him, it was really interesting. I just love people, and I don't care if you call me a stalker or creepy or whatever. They were too interesting not to photograph. That's about it. Lyon!
