Well, this was originally my "going to France" blog, but now, I'm about to embark on a different journey. For 9 months (from September 2013 to May 2014) I will be teaching English as a second language in the CEIP Federico Garcia Lorca Primary School in Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain. Woah. It seems to me that Alcobendas is to Madrid what Liberty is to Kansas City: a city of its own, but closely associated with Madrid.
See? It is about 13 km North of Madrid (I'm going to have to get used to the metric system!) and 7 km from the airport! The main difference I see between Liberty and Alcobendas (besides the obvious) is that the population of Alcobendas is 111,040 people!! Liberty has about 30,000... this is going to be very different from my small Missouri town life! At 3:30pm when I'm posting this, it is 10:30pm at night, there. It was founded in 1208. 1208! Can you imagine? This city is 800 years old!!!!
Here's the wikipedia page if you want a ridiculous amount of info about the bus system and absolutely nothing else: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcobendas
Now about the school: It's tough to find info about a primary school in Spain on the internet, although they do have a facebook page. For instance, this is the google street view picture. Not much to go off of.
But I'm sure it's a very fun school! I cannot wait to go!
Of course, I have a lot to do before I get there. I have to apply for a VISA, get certified by TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language), buy my plane ticket, find housing, and so on.

Exciting, exciting, exciting! I enjoyed your excellent French-adventure blog, and I look forward to this one too. Lorca school? Ah, first introduce yourself to Lorca. I remember him...:)
ReplyDeleteAnd I have a particular interest in sampling all the Rioja I can in this life, as opportunity presents. Carry on, Teacher, Adventurer, and so much more...
Don't worry, I've read Blood Wedding (in English) and the House of Bernida Alba (in Spanish) so I at least have some knowledge of the guy ;)
